The World

Vagrant Skies takes place in it's own Earth-like planet: Verant. While it shares much with Earth, such as climate, analogous flora and fauna (including humans and many of their domesticated species) and a similar world history, the different historical priorities and cultural paths have led to extensive bioengineering technology and a marked importance for collectivism.

Verant counts with robust international systems to keep countries in check, including the GCA (Global Cooperation Assembly), which most of the world is a part of and keeps surveillance over wars, human rights compliance and trading agreements. Going against the GCA has historically meant severe trade limitations and closed borders—effectively alienating nations and causing economical ruin.

Some of the main players of this world are:

  • The Empire of Tarrukar boasts engineering and economic supremacy, but it's far from being a dominating world power due to it's lackluster air transport and weak currency. It has received worldwide attention for pioneering genetic engineering and the production of Artes—which has become an important export product.
  • The Kingdom of Menet has worldwide renown for its engineering and manufactured products. They have a highly developed economy, ranking first by nominal GDP, holding headquarters of dozens of the world's largest companies, and having a large export of services. However, it has an intense wealth inequality problem and a poor healthcare system.
  • The Teotlanco Union is a political and economic supranational union of 24 countries. It counts with a robust common market, a shared supreme court, joint border control, and shared policies (in particular for agriculture, taxation and transport infrastructure). It has a distinguished education system and an outstanding priority on knowledge. While they count with the strongest economy of the world (the Tescano Gram is the most widespread currency of the world and used in most international transactions). However, it counts with a relatively weak military, which is supplemented by it's host of allies (including the Tarrukar Empire)
  • The Republic of Braukar is a newly appointed country, appearing after the Tarrukar Civil War of the 40:060s. While it holds a weak geopolitical position as a still young state, it provides important agricultural exports to the world and it's the main host for the world's naturalism movement: a position that critiques genetic engineering and Macroscopic Synthetic Organisms (MSOs)
  • The Atesham Republic is the small remnant from an once legendary empire. While it doesn't hold an important geopolitical role anymore, its rich history make it a touristic sensation, and its culture still ripples throughout the world.
